Your goal is to bring the pH into the ideal range of 7.0 to 7.4, as this is where both chlorine and Dazzle perform at their best. If the pH is too high, the treatment will be less effective, so it’s worth taking a few minutes to get this right.

Once the pH is balanced, raise your chlorine level to around 10 ppm (shock level). This initial shock helps kill off the bulk of the algae quickly and works alongside Dazzle to speed up the overall clean-up process.

Make sure your pump and filtration system are running properly during this stage, as good circulation is key to distributing chemicals evenly throughout the pool. Taking the time to properly balance and shock your water at the start will make a noticeable difference to how quickly and effectively your pool clears.

Add Dazzle

Start by calculating how much product you need based on your pool volume. Every pool is different, so getting this right is important. If you’re unsure, you can use the Dazzle Dosing Calculator to quickly determine the correct amount.

Once calculated, carefully measure out the required dose. Taking a moment to do this accurately ensures you’re hitting the algae hard enough to clear it efficiently, without overusing product.

Next, dissolve the Dazzle crystals in a clean bucket of water. Add the measured amount and stir until it is fully dissolved. With your solution ready, slowly pour it into the skimmer box while the pump is running. This allows Dazzle to pass through the filtration system first, helping to sanitise the filter and distribute the treatment evenly throughout the pool.

Introducing Dazzle this way ensures it moves through the entire circulation system, maximising contact with contaminants and delivering a more thorough, effective clean.

Let it work

Now it’s time to let Dazzle do what it does best. Keep your filtration system running continuously so the treatment can circulate through the entire pool. At this stage, it’s important to let the process work without interruption, as Dazzle begins breaking down algae and gathering fine particles together so they can be removed from the water.

As this happens, your filter will be doing a lot of work. It’s essential to keep an eye, on it and backwash or clean the filter as needed to maintain good flow and performance throughout the treatment.

You should also keep a close eye on your chlorine levels. As the algae is destroyed, chlorine will be consumed quickly, so topping it up when required is key to keeping the treatment working effectively and preventing any chance of the algae returning.

It’s also completely normal for the pool to look worse before it gets better. The water may turn cloudy or milky as the dead algae and fine particles are brought together — this is a sign the treatment is working.

Clean Filter & Vacuum to Waste

By this stage, the algae and fine suspended particles should have been gathered together into heavier material and dropped to the floor of the pool. You will usually notice a visible layer of flocculated debris sitting on the bottom. This can range from a light dusty coating to a heavier blanket of settled waste, depending on how green the pool was to begin with.

Before you begin vacuuming, it’s important to clean or backwash your filter first. This ensures you have strong flow and the best possible performance when removing debris from the pool.

Once your filter is clean, begin vacuuming the pool carefully. Move slowly and methodically so you do not disturb the settled layer and send it back into suspension. If the debris becomes waterborne again, the pool can cloud up and the clean-up process may take longer. Set your system to waste so the debris is removed from the pool completely rather than passing back through the filter.

For best results, vacuum gently and avoid sudden movements that could stir up the material. Taking your time here makes a big difference. Removing the settled waste properly helps reveal the clean, clear water underneath and brings you much closer to that sparkling finish.
